Mountain skills 1 Training, Irish Adventures, Kerry Cork Wicklow and Galway, BOS, MCI. Irish Adventures, has many MS1 courses, Mountain skills 1 training courses over the coming months. These will be run in Kerry Wicklow Cork and Galway. Mountain skills 1 course is recommended for those getting involved in hillwalking as it will improve your navigation and general mountain skills for not only the Irish mountains but for further afield.

Day 1 Introduction to schemeTalk: Map, suitability of OS maps (1 hour) Walk: Conventional signs, introduction to map setting, contours, feature recognition and distance measurement, terminology, simple navigation techniques (5-6 hours) Talk: Mountain hazards (1 hour) Talk: Personal equipment (1 hour)Talk: Depiction of relief (1 hour)

Mountain skills assessment, Kerry Ireland 25,26 April 2009 Irish Adventures is running a Mountain skills assessment on 25,26 April in Kerry, this is open to anyone who has completed Mountain skills 1 and Mountain skills 2 training and has the requirements needed, it is also open to those with no formal training but larger number of walks requires. If you are looking for Mountain skills 1, Mountain skills 2, Mountains skills Assessment, Mountain skills Refresher day, need to log walks, Introduction to Scrambling, or just have a Great Weekend away with Hillwalking the see dates below, if none of these interest you then you getting too lazy or you have no free time.

If you would like to do some of the classics, Coomloughra horseshoe or the Reeks walk, then I would recommend Intro to Scrambling if you have not done this kind of thing before, especially if you are not sure about your head for heights.

If you want a adventure weekend with Sea kayaking, Hillwalking, climbing abseiling, Mountain biking or Horse riding then just contact us with the date you would like and we will do the rest. Accommodation can also be arranged for any course, there will be meals and few drinks arrange for evenings.

Mountain Skills 1 Training Dates, prices and course information

Locations: Dingle, Killarney, Co. Kerry. Cork, Wicklow, Connemara, Clifden, Leenaun, Co. Galway or other areas on request

MS1: This course includes map-reading and simple navigation techniques, recognition of natural features, distance measurement and timing of walks. Mountain hazards are also covered, as is personal equipment such as correct clothing and emergency equipment.
Cost:
- non-residential 145 euro
- residential 185 euro (1 night) 225 euro (2 nights) per person sharing.

MS2: This course builds on MS1. It covers the use of a compass, route-planning and the preparation of route cards, night navigation, scrambling/ steep ground, mountain rescue and emergency procedures.

Dates; Mountain Assessment

MS Assessment: The third block is a consolidation of skills learnt in MS1 and MS2, and is an opportunity for candidates to test their mountaineering proficiency to a prescribed standard. MS assessment is held over two days, and comprises both written and practical evaluation, including a night navigation exercise. Candidates wishing to undertake MS assessment are required to maintain an official BOS logbook of their mountaineering activities, and to have logged at least 14 walks in a number of different upland areas of Ireland. At least four of these walks should be within two months of MS assessment.
